| Even though the dress is no longer “my color”, I still love it. David gave it to me for my birthday last year. He said it called to him from the back of a little boutique in a 200-year old building on Paris’ Rive Gauche. My waist-length tresses are coiled in a last-minute up-do. I stare at myself in the mirror after I finish putting on my lipstick. I look perfectly pulled together on the outside, but I know I’m scamming. My facade of tranquil elegance contradicts the jumble of confused emotions that threaten to escape at any moment. I hear David knocking at the door... |
